Prescription drug price cap could get limits in Colorado

1 min read

DENVER (KDVR) — Should some prescription drugs be exempt from having their prices capped in Colorado?

That was the debate at the Colorado Capitol on Thursday, when a bill to limit which drugs could be capped advanced out of a Senate committee.

The Prescription Drug Affordability Board was created three years ago to review prescription drugs and evaluate how affordable they are and how they impact people in Colorado. And it has the legal authority to cap any of their prices.

But Senate Bill 24-060 would exempt so-called “orphan drugs.” These are medications designated as such because they treat a rare disease or condition, typically one that affects fewer than 200,000 people in the U.S.
