Posteriormente, comisiones…

Fort Collins is abandoning its effort to expand Halligan Reservoir to store historic water rights and instead will sign onto Northern Water’s troubled Glade project, after concluding the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers would not approve a bigger Halligan dam.

City officials would not comment in detail before preview materials for the Oct. 20 City Council and water board meetings are released Thursday, but sounded the death knell for Halligan in a response to Colorado Sun questions.

The online notice of the Fort Collins City Council and Water Utility Enterprise Board regular meetings includes an item to consider “Resolution/Ordinance-1st Reading – Water Storage Agreements, Re-appropriation of Project Funds, and Withdrawal of Permit Application.”

Colorado was called out for, of all things, being a bit more affordable, according to the National Housing Conference’s latest report on housing.

It’s a very thin silver lining for workers and the housing industry that have been through an economic whirlwind since the pandemic. But in a state where affordability has worsened annually since the NHC began tracking various jobs in the pandemic, the change was notable.

“It’s still a bit of a balance because Colorado is still unaffordable, to be clear,” said Brittany Webb, NHC’s senior research director, who worked on the report titled, “Priced Out: When a good job isn’t enough.” “It’s not back to the levels of affordability that it saw back in around 2020, and that’s true of every single state in…

Drivers once hit a wild animal about once a day on a stretch of highway between Colorado’s two most populous cities, Denver and Colorado Springs.

In the roughly 10 months since North America’s largest wildlife overpass opened across Interstate 25 between Larkspur and Monument, drivers have hit two animals, according to state wildlife managers and transportation officials — a 91% drop.

The crossing system includes a 209-by-200-foot bridge, five wildlife underpasses and miles of fencing designed to funnel animals toward the crossings. Together, they give everything from 700-pound elk to tiny toads a safer way across the six lanes of highway that cuts between 39,000 acres of habitat.

“We are thrilled,” said Bridget O’Rourke, a spokesperson for Colorado Parks…

Millions of dollars in untraceable money from conservative groups has flowed into Colorado in recent weeks to oppose a pair of liberal ballot measures that would change the tax code to raise billions of dollars in state revenue, primarily for things like education and healthcare.

Most of the money is targeted at Amendment 87, which would impose a graduated income tax rate on businesses and individuals, increasing the tax burden on those earning more than about $500,000 in order to generate an estimated $2 billion in its first full year for healthcare, education and childcare.

The conservative money is also being spent to oppose Proposition NN, which would eliminate potentially billions of…

Republicans are spending more than $1.6 million to defend a state Senate district in Douglas County they have held comfortably for the last 15 years in what appears to be a desperate attempt to prevent a Democratic supermajority at the Colorado Capitol.

Democrats are just three House seats and one Senate seat shy of their first bicameral supermajority, meaning they would control two-thirds of the seats in both chambers of the legislature, which would allow them to override vetoes from the next governor and put constitutional amendments on the ballot without any Republican votes.

But a supermajority may not be on every Democrat’s wish list.

It would weaken the next governor, likely to be Democratic Attorney General Phil Weiser, and force Democrats in the…
