Denver council rejects Israel-Hamas cease-fire proclamation

DENVER (KDVR) — Denver City Council on Monday rejected a proclamation calling for a cease-fire in the war between Israel and Hamas.

The symbolic proclamation specifically called on Congress to demand a bilateral cease-fire and called on both sides to release any hostages or arbitrarily detained people.

It failed in an 8-4 vote. Sponsors Sarah Parady and Shontel Lewis voted in favor, along with Serena Gonzales-Gutierrez and Jamie Torres. Chris Hinds was absent.

Dozens gathered at the Denver City and County Building to either support or oppose the proclamation. Many people participated in public comment, and the crowd, at times, became rowdy during the debate by council…
